Purple sunbird

Purple Sunbird

The Purple Sunbird (Cinnyris asiaticus) is a small sunbird.
It feeds largely on nectar. Its long bill separates it from the more common purple sunbird.
It also feeds on small insects and spiders. These sunbirds build hanging nests.

It was a Saturday, and I had just finished my break-fast. While I was going to my drawing room from the kitchen, I heard a very distinctive sound. I realized it was a bird. Out of curiosity, I ran near the kitchen window. To My Surprise, I saw this little Sunbird sitting on the petrol tank, of my brother's bike :P.
This little dude was observing its own image in the mirror of the bike, and was poking the mirror thinking that there was another sunbird there. Ahh it was an awesome play to watch. The color's of the bird were shining in the sunlight. At this point, I couldn't resist my self to go get my camera and take a pic.

By the time I got my Camera, this little fellow had changed its position. The moment I opened the window it flew away. I was a litle disappointed :(. However, after 5 minutes I heard the same Zwick-Zwick call of the Sunbird. Trying to find the little one again, I was running from one window to the other.
Finally, I got a glimpse of it again sitting on a branch of the Hibiscus Tree. This time I managed to take atleast one pic :). It was a great start of the day for me, watching this beautiful creature.
